About Huawei
Huawei is a leading global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure and smart devices. We are committed to bringing digital to every person, home and organization for a fully connected, intelligent world.
At Huawei, we have two key drivers of innovation: science and technology, and customer needs. Both commercial value and market demands are driving our innovation and determining how we invest in science and technology. Breakthroughs in technology, in return, stimulate customer needs and allow us to create greater value for customers.
About the IRC
Huawei Ireland Research Centre's (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognised technology leader and global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. We are building an industry-recognised multi-disciplinary Research Centre of experts focusing on medium-term to long-term issues to achieve this. The IRC will work closely with an open, innovative ecosystem with Huawei customers to address real-world issues. The IRC will also engage with key European universities to build a basic research capability to support Huawei technical projects.
About the Job
We are seeking an innovative Data for AI Researcher to focus on the foundational data technologies that power true Autonomous AI Agents for zero-touch networks. Your work will be critical in enabling agents to operate intelligently and reliably in complex, dynamic network environments.
While current Agentic AI leverages Large Language Models (LLMs) integrated with basic tools and Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions, we are looking to push the boundaries of knowledge infrastructure. The agents you support will enable key autonomous scenarios:
Zero-Touch Network Self-Healing: Autonomous observation, diagnosis, reasoning, and planning require agents to instantly access and synthesize vast amounts of network state and historical data.
Self-Optimization: Agents must observe network performance degradations, learn from past operations, and adaptively access new knowledge to implement real-time improvements.
Your research will directly address the challenges of building a robust, high-performance knowledge base for autonomous agents. This includes pioneering work in:
Developing compact vectorized data representations optimized for agent access patterns.
Advancing Agentic RAG architectures for knowledge-intensive decision-making tasks.
Implementing sophisticated memory management and adaptive data management operations to ensure agents have the right information at the right time.
This role offers a unique opportunity to define the data backbone for the next generation of autonomous networks. We offer challenging, high-impact work coupled with a solid compensation package designed to attract and reward top-tier talent.
Responsibilities
Continuously learn and assess the state-of-the-art of Data for AI technologies, particularly those applicable to Autonomous Networks.
Interact with Huawei domain experts to gain a good understanding of challenges and gaps in the telecommunication domain, translating these into research problems.
Develop solution designs for novel data management architectures and guide the team members to develop technologies for autonomous agents.
Contribute to the rapid and iterative development of validated software prototypes based on AI applied to Data management technologies, and rigorously benchmark alternative solutions.
Work closely with Domain Experts, AI researchers, and product development teams to ensure research translates into practical, impactful solutions.
Conduct technical insights, contribute to strategic planning to maintain Huawei's technological leadership, and propose innovative solutions and ideas for Autonomous Telecommunication.
Requirements
PhD in Artificial Intelligence or Computer Science.
Strong hands-on experience with data processing technologies, especially with Vector Databases and vector search algorithms.
Strong programming skills in Python or Rust.
Practical skills in the use of Big Data technologies.
Problem-solving ability and a demonstrated interest in developing new methodologies for data indexing, retrieval, and knowledge access.
Domain knowledge of telecommunication networks (Telco networks) is a great plus.
Publication track records in machine learning and computer science conferences and journals, including, but not limited to, ICML, ECML, NeurIPS (NIPS), AAAI, IJCAI, or IJCNN is a great plus.
Benefits
Competitive salary package
Long-term personal growth space
Opportunities to work on high profile initiatives that impact the whole company
Opportunities to work with the brightest minds in software engineering (including Huawei Fellow and renowned professors in the world)
A multi-cultural, international working environment
Work for an international world leader, an established yet still rapidly growing Fortune 500 company
