About the IRC
Huawei Ireland Research Centre's (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognised technology leader and global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. We are building an industry-recognised multi-disciplinary Research Centre of experts focusing on medium-term to long-term issues to achieve this. The IRC will work closely with an open, innovative ecosystem with Huawei customers to address real-world issues. The IRC will also engage with key European universities to build a basic research capability to support Huawei technical projects.
About the Job
We are seeking a Senior Research Scientist with expertise in music recommendation or multimodal personalization. Beyond individual contribution, this role involves shaping research direction, guiding more junior scientists and engineers, and driving system-level decisions.
You will work across algorithm design, prototyping, and publication, with the opportunity to deploy research into large-scale production systems.
Responsibilities
- Lead research in music recommendation, user modeling, and audio-aware ranking.
- Define technical direction for projects involving session-based modeling, playlist continuation, and context-aware retrieval.
- Mentor junior researchers/engineers in experimental design, model development, and evaluation.
- Publish in top-tier ML/MIR venues and contribute to Huawei’s patent portfolio.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to transition prototypes into production environments.
Requirements
- PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Music Information Retrieval, or related discipline.
- Strong publication record** in recommender systems, MIR, or large-scale ML.
- Expertise in sequence modeling, representation learning, or multimodal fusion (audio, metadata, user behavior).
- Proficiency in Python or C++, with hands-on experience building experimental pipelines.
- Demonstrated ability to take technical lead on projects and mentor junior team members.
