About the IRC
Huawei Ireland Research Centre's (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognised technology leader and global information and communications technology (ICT) solutions provider. We are building an industry-recognised multi-disciplinary Research Centre of experts focusing on medium-term to long-term issues to achieve this. The IRC will work closely with an open, innovative ecosystem with Huawei customers to address real-world issues. The IRC will also engage with key European universities to build a basic research capability to support Huawei technical projects.
About the Job
We are looking for a talented Expert Rendering Engineer for an exciting opportunity in our Game Engine Team in Dublin.
The Terminal Cloud Technology Lab Game Engine team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Expert Rendering Engineer with expertise in Real-Time Rendering at the Huawei Ireland Research Centre. The candidate will lead a team researching and co-developing a next-generation graphics engine, specifically engineered to improve performance of mobile games and mobile GPU rendering algorithms on Huawei’s Harmony OS. In this role, you will have hands-on ownership of the core rendering architecture, from advanced material systems and programmable pipelines to runtime performance optimization, ensuring the engine is optimally integrated with the Huawei GPU driver to harness the maximum performance of the hardware
You will have a direct line of communication with project stakeholders to guide the direction and progression of the rendering engine throughout its development and commercialization. You will work within an international and fast-paced team of expert researchers and engineers, working on deeply technical problems in direct collaboration with product teams in China, partners and customers using our devices for deployment.
Responsibilities
Lead a team developing real-time rendering systems.
Coordinate with leadership on project planning, resource allocation and headcount.
Provide guidance to leadership on the latest real-time rendering and gaming trends.
Research and develop advanced real-time rendering pipelines, including material systems, programmable pipelines, and ShaderLab optimization.
Identify key developments and trends in mobile computer graphics research from SIGGRAPH, Eurographics, EGSR, JCGT, i3D and many others, and propose novel solutions to key challenges in game engine graphics related fields to advance the state-of-the-art.
Stay updated with emerging rendering technologies from commercial engines (e.g., ray tracing, Nanite) and propose innovative solutions. Devise a technical implementation plan based on these proposals and take responsibility for ensuring that it is successful and converted into production.
Provide feedback and suggestions to GPU driver and hardware teams to influence future GPU hardware developments.
Maintain communication with academia and industry partners with a focus on analyzing potential benefits to product goals from collaboration.
Collaborate with internal rendering teams to align technical innovation with production goals.
Requirements
Proven ability to lead teams to deliver large projects.
8+ years of experience with C/C++ with a proven ability to architect large-scale, maintainable system.
4+ years of experience with Vulkan in a commercial project
In-depth knowledge of GPU rendering pipelines, backed by 2+ years of experience in GPU driver development (or equivalent experience working closely with mobile GPU vendors on a commercial game development project).
Strong Shader programming skills (HLSL/GLSL/Metal).
Solid understanding of modern rendering techniques (ray tracing, global illumination, or GPU-driven rendering) and 3D math (linear algebra).
Hands-on experience with graphics debugging debugging tools such as RenderDoc, Pix, NVIDIA NSight or similar.
Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
Additional Skills
Shipped titles are a heavy plus
Prior involvement in game engine development (Unity, Unreal 5 or in-house engines) is a heavy plus.
Experience with data-oriented design and ECS is a plus.
Ability to translate research paper ideas into working code and solve complex problems while considering end-user requirements.
Metal and/or DX12 experience is a plus.
Prior experience with graphics development on Android or iOS is a heavy plus.
